The first week of school is always exciting for me. This year I have 82 new students as I begin another 7/8 grade loop with a 7th grade. I like to begin our time together with "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost. It's interesting to see how many deep thinkers I have to begin the year. This has led me to think I would like to conduct my inquiry around poetry. I'm wondering how digital media can enhance students' engagement in both reading and writing poetry. I'm still working on the wording of my question and the steps I will take to do this.

Hi Gina!
ReplyDeleteI love poetry. I've always believed that you interact with and FEEL poetry. I would LOVE to see what you could do with poetry digitally. There are so many possibilities! Bailey
I also love poetry and this is a great poem. Does your class read the book "The Outsiders"? This poem is important in the plot of that novel. I am anxious to see how this inquiry works for you as I'd love to steal some ideas!
ReplyDeleteI tried something last year that was quite successful called video poetry. I had students choose a favorite poem and create a multi-media presentation. They had to find images and music (many used garageband) that helped to express their poem and create a slide show or i-movie. Then they recorded themselves reading the poem, so it was like a digital story. We showed them at our Showcase night in the spring. They were a huge hit! If I can figure out how to post one here, I'll include the link and you can see what I mean. They could also just create podcasts. There'a something called podbean that we have used before but it's been a while.
